AOC Danang 2026: Malaya Optical at the Asia Optometric Congress

Malaya Optical attends AOC Danang 2026 in Vietnam, exploring the latest in optometry, myopia management and eye care while connecting with industry experts.

AOC Danang 2026: Learning and Discovery with Malaya Optical

Behind every eye examination is someone with a story: a parent concerned about their child’s changing prescription, a professional struggling with tired eyes, or someone hoping to enjoy reading comfortably again.

These everyday conversations remind us why we keep learning. From 18–22 September 2026, Malaya Optical travelled to Da Nang, Vietnam, on a trip that included the 5th Asia Optometric Congress (AOC 2026). With EssilorLuxottica arranging an extended journey through Da Nang and Hoi An, the trip brought together professional education, industry friendships and time to appreciate the world we help our customers see.

One Vision, One Health: A Shared Purpose

As part of our 18–22 September 2026 journey, we attended AOC 2026 at Ariyana Convention Centre Danang. The congress carried the theme “One Vision, One Health: Comprehensive Eye Care for Asia” and the tagline “Shared Responsibility, Shared Future.”

Fiona, Branch Manager of Malaya Optical Subang SS15, attended alongside Yvonne, Professional Manager of Malaya Optical Damansara Uptown. Their purpose was to explore current developments in optometry and consider how these insights could support our customers in Malaysia.

Organised by the Department of Ophthalmology–Optometry at the Health Professional Education Center of Hanoi Medical University, the congress created an opportunity for clinicians, researchers and educators to exchange knowledge across borders.

Its message felt close to our own work. Comprehensive eye care begins with understanding how someone lives, what they find difficult and what matters most to them.

Congress Highlights: Knowledge That Comes Home with Us

Myopia management was a particularly meaningful part of the congress. For parents, an increasing prescription can bring uncertainty. For optometrists, staying informed helps us explain the available options and the importance of ongoing review more clearly.

The programme included International Myopia Institute contributions, with Dr Tim Fricke discussing global myopia epidemiology and Dr Huy Tran addressing myopia interventions and management. These topics connected the wider picture of short-sightedness with decisions made in everyday practice.

Another highlight was HOYA Vision Care’s second MiYOSMART Case Study Contest. Na Wang of Tianjin Eye Hospital Optometric Center, China, was named the Asia-Pacific winner. The focus on real patient cases offered a useful reminder that innovation gains meaning through careful clinical application.

Discussions around equitable access, low vision education and patient-centred technology added another perspective. Good care must also be understandable and responsive to the person receiving it.

Innovation Beyond a Product Launch

The standout developments on this journey centred on clinical knowledge, myopia-management approaches and the thoughtful use of technology.

For Malaya Optical, understanding a new lens design or clinical tool involves asking practical questions. Who might benefit? What does the evidence show? What measurements and follow-up are needed? How can we explain the choices clearly?

These questions help us assess developments before recommending them. Keeping up with international optometry research supports a more informed conversation when customers ask about their own vision or their children’s eye care.

It also encourages us to look beyond a prescription alone and consider comfort, daily activities and longer-term visual needs.

Discovering Da Nang Together

Our journey began with visits to Da Nang’s Love Lock Bridge and Dragon Bridge. These landmarks offered a welcoming introduction to the city and a chance to spend time with the EssilorLuxottica team and fellow eye-care professionals.

Dinner at Ngon Thi Hao and an overnight stay at Novotel Danang Premier Han River rounded off the first day before the congress visit.

Travel gives professional relationships room to grow. Away from busy appointment schedules, there is more time to get to know the people behind familiar industry names. Shared meals and sightseeing made this journey feel more personal.

From Ba Na Hills to Hoi An’s Lanterns

Following the congress visit, our itinerary took us to Ba Na Hills. The cable-car journey offered views across forested slopes, while the Golden Bridge, supported by its enormous sculpted hands, provided a memorable setting for group photographs.

There was time to explore Fantasy Park and enjoy a buffet lunch before continuing to Hoi An.

The evening brought a quieter change of pace: releasing traditional lanterns on the Hoai River, followed by time at Hoi An Night Market. After a programme focused on learning, this was an opportunity to pause and enjoy being together.

Dinner at Ngon Pho Hoi and a stay at Koi Hoi An Resort & Spa completed this part of the journey.

Local Traditions and a Warm Farewell

The next day began with a visit to Cam Thanh for a basket-boat ride through the coconut forest. Experiencing local rowing techniques brought a different kind of learning to the trip: discovering a place through the skills and traditions of its people.

After lunch at Goda, the group explored Hoi An Ancient Town, including its old streets, historic houses, Fujian Assembly Hall, Japanese Covered Bridge and riverside surroundings.

A farewell dinner at Song Tranh brought everyone together before another night at Koi Hoi An Resort & Spa. These shared experiences gave the journey a warmth that extended beyond the conference hall.

What This Means for Malaya Optical Customers

The value of attending AOC continues when our team returns to the consultation room.

Exposure to current research helps us review our approach, discuss developments with colleagues and give customers clearer explanations. For families exploring myopia management in Malaysia, that can mean a more informed discussion about suitable options and monitoring.

For adults, continued learning supports thoughtful conversations about changing vision, lens choices and the role of clinical technology.

We aim to stay closely connected to developments in eye care and introduce relevant solutions when supported by evidence, availability and individual suitability. Our customers deserve recommendations that connect professional knowledge with their actual needs.

An Expert Partnership with Customer Value in Mind

Malaya Optical’s invitation to this EssilorLuxottica Expert Partner trip reflects our established relationship with the company.

We value that connection because it creates opportunities for professional education, product updates and direct conversations with the people supporting lens development and supply. It also helps us stay informed about partner programmes and available offers, so we can discuss relevant choices and value with customers.

We returned with fresh perspectives, stronger connections and renewed motivation to keep improving.
