Is an RGP better than a scleral lens?
Neither is universally better. Both can provide excellent visual rehabilitation in suitable patients. Corneal shape, severity, comfort, stability and individual requirements help determine the appropriate option.
Does Malaya Optical fit scleral lenses?
Yes. Malaya Optical already provides scleral contact-lens fitting for suitable patients.
Does Malaya Optical have corneal topography?
Yes. We use the OCULUS Keratograph to map and evaluate corneal shape.
Does wearing an RGP stop keratoconus progression?
No. RGP lenses improve vision but shouldn’t be considered a treatment for stopping keratoconus progression.
What happens if my keratoconus appears to be progressing?
Where appropriate, Malaya Optical can refer patients to an ophthalmologist or corneal specialist for further assessment.
Can I wear an RGP after corneal cross-linking?
Potentially, but this must be evaluated individually according to the condition of the cornea, previous treatment, healing and clinical findings.
Is Wöhlk KE available at Malaya Optical now?
Not yet. We are looking to introduce Wöhlk KE in the future based on patient demand.

Better Vision With Keratoconus May Still Be Possible
Being told you have keratoconus can be worrying—particularly when your glasses no longer provide the clear vision you once had.
But an irregular cornea doesn’t necessarily mean you have to accept permanently blurry or distorted vision.
For suitable patients, specialty RGP and scleral contact lenses can provide a new optical surface over the irregular cornea and substantially improve functional vision.
Wöhlk KE will provide another specialty RGP option for us to consider when it becomes available at Malaya Optical.
But the first step isn’t choosing Wöhlk, RGP or scleral.
