A Dream Come True: My Switzerland Experience with Essilor Experts
I still can’t believe it! I was selected to go on an all-expenses-paid trip to Switzerland as part of the Essilor Experts programme! The opportunity was originally offered to my boss, but they graciously let me attend on behalf of our team. I am forever grateful to my boss and to Malaya Optical for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
To Essilor Experts Malaysia, thank you for the full hospitality. From Emirates flights to hotel stays, meals, and transport. Everything was planned to perfection. I only had to cover my shopping!
An Unforgettable 9 Days Across Switzerland
Day 1: November 21, 2024 – Arrival in Zurich
We touched down in Zurich, and I stayed at the Hilton Zurich Airport. This was also the first time I saw snow in real life—and it was magical!

Day 2: November 22 – Bern and Montreux
We headed to Lausanne, staying at the Alpha Palmiers Hotel. On the way, we explored Bern, Switzerland’s capital. Walking through its Medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, felt like stepping into a fairytale. We visited the Zytglogge Clock Tower, Bern Cathedral, and ended the evening at the beautiful Montreux Christmas Market by Lake Geneva.
Day 3: November 23 – Gruyères, Geneva & Evian
We explored Gruyères, famous for cheese, and watched the cheese-making process at the local factory. Then we saw the Jet d’Eau, Flower Clock, and Geneva’s Old Town. I stayed at the Hilton Evian Hotel, right by the French border.
Day 4: November 24 – Zermatt & The Matterhorn
A highlight of the trip! From Täsch, we took a scenic train to Zermatt, a charming car-free village surrounded by the Alps. Then, a cogwheel train ride took us to Gornergrat, offering breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and glaciers. We stayed at Les Bains de Saillon Hotel.
Day 5: November 25 – Interlaken & Lucerne
Interlaken, nestled between two lakes, looked like a picture from a postcard. We then took the SBB Express to Lucerne, home to medieval architecture, the Chapel Bridge, and Lion Monument. That night, we stayed at the Movenpick Hotel in Egerkingen.
Day 6: November 26 – Mount Titlis & Lucerne Shopping
We rode the world’s first rotating gondola to the top of Mount Titlis. The snow, the views, and walking on the Titlis Cliff Walk (Europe’s highest suspension bridge) were unforgettable. Later, we indulged in some retail therapy on Lucerne’s shopping streets.

Day 7: November 27 – Liechtenstein & St. Gallen
We crossed into Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, then visited St. Gallen, home to the stunning Abbey of Saint Gall. We ended the day back in Zurich with a private farewell dinner at Il Faro Restaurant.
Day 8: November 28 – Rhine Falls & Chocolate Heaven
Our final adventures included a visit to the Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall, and a sweet stop at the Lindt Chocolate Museum. We also explored Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s luxury shopping street.
Day 9: November 29 – Homebound
We returned to Kuala Lumpur with full hearts and suitcases packed with Swiss memories, chocolates, and stories that I’ll treasure forever.
