Before understand on how a contact lens work, you should know a bit on how your eyes work. When light reflects off an object, it will pass through the cornea and the pupil. By wearing contact lenses, the light will go through your lens, which focuses the rays on the retina at the back of the eye. The retina is filled with stems and cones that convert light to electrical impulses send to the brain. The blurred vision is due to “refractive errors”.
The contact lens work to correct vision is the same way glasses do; they alter the direction of light rays to focus light properly into the retina.
If you have short-sighted, light rays are too early to focus on your eyes, so they form a focal point in front of the retina and not directly above it. The glasses or contacts are to correct it by diverting light rays, which reduces eye focus. Then, it will moves the focal point of the eye backwards to the located retina. If you’re far-sighted, your eyes do not have enough focus, light rays are failed to form the focal point by the time it reach the retina. By wearing a glasses or contact lenses, it will correct the distance by combining light rays, which increase eye focus. It will moves the focal point of the eye forward to the retina.
