Polarized sunglasses have been popular for years with boaters and fishermen who need to reduce reflected glare from the water surrounding them.

But now that many others who spend time outdoors have discovered the benefits of polarized lenses, interest in these types of sunglasses has soared.

Besides boaters, outdoor enthusiasts who benefit the most from polarized sunglasses include skiers, bikers, golfers and joggers, all who may enjoy a clearer view along with elimination of glare.

These sunglasses can be used for driving and, in fact, can reduce glare from a long, flat surface such as the hood of the car or the road’s surface.

Polarized sunglasses also can be worn indoors by light-sensitive people, including post-cataract surgery patients and those continually exposed to bright light through windows.

How Do Polarized Lenses Work?

Light reflected from surfaces such as a flat road or smooth water generally is horizontally polarized. This means that, instead of light being scattered in all directions in more usual ways, reflected light generally travels in a more horizontally oriented direction. This creates an annoying and sometimes dangerous intensity of light that we experience as glare.

Polarized sunglasses cut glare and haze so your eyes are more comfortable and you can see better.

Polarized lenses contain a special filter that blocks this type of intense reflected light, reducing glare.

Though polarized sunglasses improve comfort and visibility, you will encounter some instances when these lenses may not be advisable. One example is downhill skiing, where you don’t want to block light reflecting off icy patches because this alerts skiers to hazards they are approaching.

In addition, polarized lenses may reduce the visibility of images produced by liquid crystal displays (LCDs) found on the dashboards of some cars or in other places such as the digital screens on automatic teller (bank) machines.

With polarized lenses, you also may be unable to see your cell phone or GPS device. Boaters and pilots also have reported similar problems when viewing LCD displays on instrument panels, which can be a crucial issue when it comes to making split-second decisions based strictly on information displayed on a panel.

However, for most other sports and activities, polarized sunglasses offer great advantages. And today, many polarized lenses are available in combination with other features that can enhance outdoor experiences.

These Cocoons OveRx sunglasses with a blue mirror finish are worn over prescription eyewear. They have polarized lenses that work well for deep sea anglers, who need a lot of protection from glare.

Polarized bifocal sunglasses or progressive lenses are examples of options for thepresbyope who also likes outdoor sports.

And polarized photochromic lenses, which change from dark outside to light inside, may be right for the light-sensitive person who frequently is in and out of the sun on any given day.

Whether you spend your time waterskiing or boating, in-line skating or mountain biking, driving or jogging, polarized sunglasses may be the right choice to help you enjoy your life outdoors

Replacement Schedule
Different lenses are made out of different materials. Because each material performs differently, manufacturers recommend a replacement schedule for each type of lens to allow for optimal performance of the lens. Most lenses worn today are intended to be replaced on a frequent basis. Typical replacement frequencies include one day, 1 to 2 weeks and one month. Speak to your eye care professional who will recommend a replacement schedule based on the lenses you are wearing and your individual needs.

Why, eyeglasses project different type of character. If yes, then initially you must pay stress over the frames as per your facial structure. Frame play a vital role in enhancing the overall personality of a man after wearing his glasses so your main goal should be to make a great selection among all. Each design whether you are about to choose the glasses but you would find plethora of options to choose from such as acetate or metal, round or full body, heavy or light designs and etc. As a women your interested differ from a men. When u select the eyeglasses for your men, don’t think like a women…but as a man instead. These masculine creatures love a more brisk and unique, bold than beautiful, strong rather than week..they are entirely different. In case, the arm of men glasses are made up of titanium memory metal then it depicts the high living standard of wearer.

At Malaya Optical in Damansara Uptown located in Klang Valley, we carry huge selection of memory metal eyeglasses are extremely flexible and comfortable because you can bend them back and forth without causing any damage. Moreover, arms of such glasses can be molded according to people’s face and ears so as to make it more comfortable for the user. It is to note that anti-reflection lenses are supposed to be the perfect lenses that can perfectly complement with sunglasses for men. For the people with high prescription, it would be advisable to go with thinner higher index lenses for men glasses equipped with anti-reflective coating in order to get appropriate appearance. Not only this, if you are above 40 then progressive lenses are also available to let you stay away from outdated lined bifocal lenses. Some subtleness to details helps as you would be able to identify all the needs of your men. The brands of eyewear that you could consider are Mykita, Parasite, Hugo Boss, Jf Rey, Undostrial, Prada, Benetton, Ray Ban, Oakley, Coppe+Sid, Less than Human, Infinity, and many others available at Malaya Optical in Damansara Uptown.

When u select the appropriate frame shape of your man, the glasses has to be opposite of his facial shape. It has been a known thing, that softer, fuller faces look great with sharper edged frames. While a more stronger and edger face, would suit a softer rimless style. While choosing glasses, one should consider that their faces would not always in symmetrical so your frame should get properly fitted to ears and should cross eyebrows at the same level otherwise it may create seesaw effect.

Basically, when choosing your eye glasses for your man, it’s not about only getting to know the eyeglasses, it’s about getting to know him. Do you know your man??

The new prescription for better vision™

ZEISS introduces a new lens concept for better vision: enjoy clearer and high contrast vision at night and in low night.

Improved night vision has become a reality for people who have chosen ZEISS customized lenses featuring i.Scription® technology. i.Scription® by ZEISS is a technology developed by the leader in eyeglass lenses that analyzes the individual profile of each eye and uses this information in the computation and production of the eyeglass lenses. For the wearer, this can mean an entirely new quality of vision, especially at night. People who wear these lenses experience much clearer and sharper vision at night; they also perceive contrasts and colors more intensely.

One glance at automotive accident statistics reveals this fact: although only 20 percent of all cars are operated on public roadways in Germany in the dark, 40 percent of all serious accidents occur at night (Source: German Federal Statistics Bureau).

Bright light sources against a dark nighttime background can create visual problems: light cones, reflections, mirror images, limited vision, low contrasts and overall adverse visual conditions that irritate and fatigue the eyes and the overall sensory system. Consequently, the risk of having a traffic accident is at its highest level at night.

These factors not only increase the risk of accidents, they also have a negative impact on the quality of life of the people who have to live with them. They may have a difficult time driving at night at all, and even be unable to enjoy night time outdoor activities.

ZEISS precision eyeglass lenses and i.Scription® enhance your vision and your life

Every eye is as unique as every human fingerprint. A new patented procedure developed by ZEISS – i.Scription® – takes this individuality into account. In addition to the typical vision conditions, i.e. near- or far sightedness, an examination with i.Profilerplus® by ZEISS also analyzes the individual eye profile. Every person’s profile is unique.

During the examination process more than 2,500 reference points are measured, though the examination only requires the patient to look briefly into the device. It is a high-tech solution for the eye: harnessing the powers of infrared light, i.Profilerplus® by ZEISS generates a light point on the retina. As it is reflected back to the i.Profilerplus®, the light is distorted by the eye’s individual aberrations. i.Profilerplus® measures these aberrations to create a custom profile for every eye.

Unlike conventional auto refraction instruments, i.Profilerplus® also enables optometrists to take measurements of dilated pupils under nighttime vision conditions. This allows them to recognize and address vision problems that impact the quality of a person’s nighttime vision.

A complex, patented computation process is used to translate i.Profilerplus® data, along with the results of the standard eye exam, into a precision eyeglass lens that perfectly matches the patient’s exact vision needs. These lenses are manufactured with an accuracy of 1/100th of a diopter . (A diopter is the standard measurement of prescription power for vision.) Conventional eyeglasses, on the other hand, are usually produced in increments of 0.25 diopters. Consequently, the ZEISS solution is more precise than any other measuring process for lenses available today.

i.Scription® by ZEISS combines the information from i.Profilerplus® (see photo) and your doctor’s subjective refraction to deliver your best possible prescription. This innovative technology allows your eye doctor to provide an even higher standard of care.

How you will benefit

The benefits of i.Scription® optimized lenses will become apparent when you discover how much better you can see at night and under twilight conditions, when your eyes have to recognize people, objects and your surroundings in the presence of very little or no natural light.

Combined with the additional blinding effects and reflections caused by artificial light sources at night, such as street lamps or the headlights of vehicles coming toward the driver, these conditions pose obstacles and are stressful for the eyes. This causes the eyes to fatigue rapidly, which is dangerous especially for those who have to drive at night.

Precision eyeglass lenses featuring i.Scription® technology can also improve your day time vision. You will enjoy the absolutely clear and precise focus, perfect contrasts and more brilliant colors these lenses deliver.

You can come to Malaya Optical Uptown, the ZEISS eye care practice and the specialist will be pleased to show you how the i.Scription® technology works and how you can enjoy better vision – even at night – thanks to ZEISS precision lenses.

It’s time for you to dig out that pair of nerd glasses you’ve worn in high school from the bottom drawer. When it comes to fashion, you may find an interesting phenomenon. That is, everything old can be in vogue again!

Now heavy rimmed glasses have improved tremendously in term of material and weight. Back in those days, heavy rimmed glasses are made from horn or tortoiseshell material. This leads to the glasses to weight a lot which makes the wearer to feel uncomfortable especially on the nose bridge. However, since these materials have been banned, manufacturers have found replacement in the form of plastic which is far more acceptable for its lightweight.

In Hollywood fashion scene, you can see Johnny Depp has given nerd glasses a new definition. He’s often sported on/off the red carpet wearing his faithful heavy rimmed glasses as trademark look. You’ll be delighted to learn that our lovely hunky vampire Edward, Robert Pattinson is a fan of RayBan Wayfarer which is back in style.

Now I’m sure you are wondering where to buy heavy rimmed glasses. You can check out the 4 outlets under Malaya Optical in Damansara Uptown, Subang Jaya SS15, Sungai Besi Southgate and Jusco AU2 Setiawangsa. You’ll find that a lot of brands have come out with the new collection of heavy rimmed glasses. Brands such as Viktor & Rolf, Moschino, Wolfgang, Spivvy, Derek Lam, Andy Wolf, Vivienne Westwood, Coach, ECO, RayBan, and many more.

People nowadays uses spectacle to cover up their blemishes and also hide themselves behind the eyeglasses. That’s not right! Eye glasses are not for you to hide yourself! It’s for you To show. To be seen. To be noticed. To be stared. To be uniquely and individually beautiful. To feel good.

Many ladies tone down their eye make-up and even shy away from make-up altogether, as if wearing glasses and looking attractive are mutually exclusive. These women are wrong. You can wear glasses and look glamorous all at the same time.

The mantra ‘less is more’ in make-up for women who wear glasses is simply NOT true. It may apply to women who wear multifocal, which are an extreme prescription but strong eye make-up when wearing glasses is a great style statement. The frames can be considered as a fashion accessory and it also helps to know that glasses always tend to direct the onlooker’s attention to the eyes.

If you apply Concealer, you have to be careful that all creamy products applied under the eyes will warm up as the day goes on and therefore be rubbed off. This may happens to the under-eye skin which usually rubs against frame. So what you need to do is to apply something to make the concealer settle into places. You can try to apply loose powder over the top, which acts as a wonderful de-shiner because it absorbs all the oil. You can also use translucent powder or a special under-eye brightening powder.

Let’s move on to the Mascara. Clumpy lashes look particularly bad behind lenses. So to achieve lush, smooth lashes, you’ll need to have a quality product and the right application technique. Whether you wear glasses or not, clumpy lashes look bad anyway. Never pump the wand into the tube as that will dry out your mascara more quickly and leave you with lumps. Also, while applying, be sure to wiggle the wand at the base of your lashes and pull it outwards to coat each lash.

Now you may have asked whether it’s recommendable to wear False lashes with glasses on. I wouldn’t recommend that, unless you are going for a very dramatic effect. For women who want to emphasize their lashes, single lashes sparingly applied look more natural. Plus, you can add a few more, one at a time, depending on the effect you want. When you add false lashes, I would recommend you let them dry and set in a 90-degree angle upwards, so when they droop slightly as you wear them they still give the illusion of lifting the ends of your lids.

Let’s talk about eyeshadow. You must be indecisive over Neutral or Vibranteyeshadows. I would recommend women with eyeglasses to wear stronger eye make-up and opt for vibrant eyeshadow; their eyes are framed by the glasses and as a result can seem like an artwork within. Feel free to use brighter shades, such as apple green, fuchsia pink, etc. These will look especially good on women who wear heavy black or coloured funky frames. But it is important to find the exact shade that flatters your skin colour and dress. I would recommend using your favorite eyeshadow in a cream version that dries into a powder and has good staying power. Use your fingers to blend the shadow in well.

No make-up will be complete without Eyeliner, as it draws attention to your eyes. But the thickness of the liner has no special rules and depends on the shape of the eye you are trying to create. You can create an elongated tapered line that is thicker at the end (inspired by cats’ eyes), or make a very thin line using a dark powder colour that ties all the single eyelashes together along the lashline and simply defines the eye. Besides, lining the eye in general takes a bit of practice. That’s why they say ‘Practice makes perfect’.

Nowadays, ‘Cat’s eyes’ and ‘Smoky eyes’ looks are the In trend and exude a glamorous feels. We carry that brand of eyeglasses namely Andy Wolf, a handmade Austrian product. But the smoky eye/nude lip look is sometimes considered a bit theatrical. One easy way to turn a daytime look into a sophisticated evening look is to use a liquid black eyeliner to create a Sixties-inspired cat’s eyes look of the kind made famous by Brigitte Bardot. You can start experimenting both looks and see which one suit you better.

Now you may be in dilemma to choose Creamy eyeshadows or Powder versions and Matte or Shimmer. That would really depend on whether your personal preference is powders or creams. Creams are easier if you are applying a single colour all over the lid. But remember, the texture you select depends on where you want to place the eye make-up: the important rule to remember is that a matte shade looks good on the centre to the edge of your lashes and a shimmery colour looks great in the inner corners of the eye.

We often speak about Brows framing the face. With glasses, you already have a symmetrical frame to work with and this can be more dramatic depending on the kind of frame you have chosen. The recent, vintage, ‘cat-eye’ glasses are a fun way to experiment with shapes that suit your face.

With the use of a fine-angled eyeliner brush to fill in and shape brows, it tends to come across as more natural. A lot of people like to use a pencil so they can literally draw on each hair, but both techniques work well if you take the time to match both brows. You can try to brush the hairs upward with a clear mascara to hold them in place or literally treat them like hair and use a disposable mascara spoolie brush sprayed with hairspray!

There is no real difference in how women with or without glasses should wear Foundation. With foundation, you should aim to get an overall even effect. Light coverage is normally for the warmer times of the year. In cooler months, heavier full-coverage foundations work better, as they even out skin tone more effectively without feeling heavy and also provide a welcome layer of protection against the elements. It’s recommended to use foundation according to the state of your skin on any given day. So if your face feels a bit more oily when you start on make-up, then reach for a more matte foundation. If you have used a heavy night cream before going to bed, then select a light foundation the next morning. Don’t be afraid to mix colours and textures in foundations to suit your mood and the tone of your skin.

Just as with foundation, there are no special requirements when it comes to wearing Blush with glasses. But yes, using too much blush will look more odd when you have glasses on. Use a bronzer sparingly to warm up the skin, especially on the outer-most areas of the face so the lighter area in the centre is even more pronounced. Now it’s strongly recommended to perfect the make-up using a bright pink or apricot blush. This completes the look naturally. But it’s important to keep in mind the layering of textures. Applying a cream blush on freshly powdered cheeks will result in a paste that won’t blend into the skin. Use cream blush on skin that not been powdered and then set it with a translucent powder.

Now it’s important to keep shimmer to a minimum. Therefore, the parts to be applied Highlighter will be the tops of your cheeks, cupid’s bow above the lip, and deep in the inner corners of your eyes. Basically, you are trying to create light and glow on your face, not oily face.

Let’s touch on another part that’s essential to everyone; Lips. Lip colours don’t have anything to do with glasses. Lip colour is ultimately about the level of drama a woman wants to create. You can use all three textures – glossy, matte or powdery shimmer – all at the same time when it comes to lips. Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian are known for adding all sorts of dimension to their pout by adding multiple shades and textures on a nude lip. Here’s how to do it:

Start with a lip pencil, shading it gradually inwards towards the center of the lip. Then follow it with a golden apricot color of lipstick and finally top it with a shimmery gloss applied just at the center of the lips. Press gently together. Very Hollywood!

Now what are you waiting for? Start experimenting today with your make-up to accentuate your beauty. Remember, you don’t have to hide behind your glasses anymore. Your glasses are to accessories your face. You wear the glasses, not the other way round. At Malaya Optical, we don’t just sell unique individual eyeglasses, we create individualism. Visibility is life.

Meaning they change colour according to the sun. If it’s hot and sunny, it can turn very dark like sunglasses. If it’s cloudy, then it’ll turn a slight dark shade. This helps your eye to be less strained and reduce eye fatigue.
Another advantage is you don’t have to carry 2 pairs of glasses, one being your clear prescriptive glasses and another prescriptive sunglasses. This way you lower your chances of losing your glasses as you’ll only wear them and not carry them around.

As the lenses change colour according to the UV rays, thus it’s very natural on the wearer’s eyesight but the lenses won’t be very effective in the car as car window nowadays are installed with UV-blocked tint which makes it difficult for transition lenses to change colour.

The transitions lenses are now on the 6th generation technology which changes colour faster and darker compared to the previous generation. The lenses transition from clear to dark takes only a few seconds and from dark to clear takes less than 30 seconds. Thus this lenses is very convenient to wearer.

Many reputable brands such as Zeiss, Essilor and Hoya offers their lenses with this transition option. They can be prescribed to wearer who are short-sighted and long-sighted. It even comes in progressive multifocal lenses.

These lenses are made from plastic or polycarbonate material . Polycarbonate transition is highly recommended to children and active outdoor sportman as the material is much tougher and shatter-proof which makes it safer to be used.

Transition lenses block 100% of UV rays and this helps in long term health and well being of your eyes. So what are you waiting for? Go get one for your precious eyes today as your eyes are the window to the world.

An ocular opacity, partial or complete, of one or both eyes, on or in the lens or capsule, especially an opacity impairing vision or causing blindness. The subsequent cloudy appearance of the eye resulted in the origin of the name cataract.

An advanced stage cataract would be something like putting sheets of wax paper over your glasses.\

The lens is made mostly of water and protein. The protein is normally arranged to let light pass through and focus on the retina. Protein clumps together Small areas of lens begin to cloud
Light is blocked from reaching the retina and vision is impaired.

1. Early Stages – change prescription
2. Late Stages – surgical removal

For secondary, traumatic and congenital cataracts surgery is not always an option. Once a cataract begins to develop there is nothing that can be done to prevent its growth.

There are four different types of cataracts
1. Age-related cataract: Most cataracts are related to aging
2. Congenital cataracts: Some babies are born with cataracts or develop them in childhood, often in both eyes. These can lead to blindness or may not affect vision at all
3. Secondary cataract: Development in people who have certain other health issues, such as diabetes or things such as steroid use
4. Traumatic cataract: cataracts which develop after an eye injury

What is the cause of cataract? This is a somewhat complicated subject

a) Aging of the lens is caused by oxidation (the formation of free radicals)

b) Free Radicals: A molecule which has lost an electron and will do anything to get it back
They attack the protein of the lens, steal a hydrogen and cause oxidative damage. This leads to a snowball effect. The protein then clumps together and the lens begins to cloud, blocking some light from reaching the retina and clouding vision

Speed of oxidation is increased by:
1. Smoking /Alcohol use
2. Diabetes
3. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet sunlight

What are the symptoms of Cataract?

Cloudy, fuzzy, foggy or filmy vision

Changes in the way you see colors

Problems driving at night because headlights seem too bright

Problems with glare from lamps or the sun

Frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription

Double vision

Better near vision in those who are farsighted

As the lens becomes cloudier the optics of the eye change this may actually allow people who once needed glasses to be able to read without them

How is Cataract detected?
Visual acuity test: This eye chart test measures how well you see at various distances
Pupil dilation: the pupil is widened with eye drops to allow your eye doctor to see more of the lens and retina and look for other eye problems
Tonometry: This is a standard test to measure fluid pressure inside the eye

How are early cataracts treated? Vision may be improved by: Using different eyeglasses, Magnifying lenses & Stronger lighting

If these measures do not improve quality of life, surgery is the only option involves the removal of the cloudy lens and replacing it with a substitute lens. A cataract needs to be removed only when vision loss interferes with everyday activities such as driving, reading or watching TV

How is later stages of cataract treated? Phacoemulsification: The most common method of removal. Phaco involves a small incision on the side of the cornea. A tiny probe is inserted which emits ultrasound waves that soften and break up the cloudy center of the lens so it can be removed with suction. Then, After the lens is removed a clear, artificial lens called an Intraocular lens (IOL) is required. The IOL becomes a permanent part of the eye and must last the rest of the patients life.

What are the risk of cataract surgery?

Possible complications:

High pressure in the eye

Blood collection inside the eye

Infection inside the eye

Artificial lens damage

Drooping eyelids

Retinal detachment

Severe bleeding inside the eye

Swelling or clouding of the cornea

Blindness

LOSS OF EYE

Myovison Lenses the Breakthrough Spectacle Lenses That Reduce Myopia Progression by 30%

Myopia (nearsightedness) is a visual challenge spanning the globe, occurring across all ages and ethnicities. The root causes of myopia remain a mystery, though recent studies in collaboration with Carl Zeiss Vision have demonstrated a link between the elongation of the eye and myopia progression. Genetic factors do play a significant role, and East Asian children are most likely affected by this visual impairment. ZEISS is introducing the innovative MyoVision™ lenses – the most effective way to retard myopia.

We usually associate myopia eye with getting older. In fact, nearsightedness is usually first diagnosed amongst children at the age of 4 to 6 and continues to progress until the mid-20s. What is even more distressing is that genetic factors also play a large part in excessive eyeball growth. About 60% of short-sighted children have at least one parent with myopia. No treatment is available for the cause.

Visual Inpairment in Children on The Rise

It is a known fact that myopia children most likely affects East Asians. Across the Asian continent, cause of myopia is widespread – nearly half of 11- to 13-year-olds in urban areas suffer from myopia and the number of myopes globally is expected to grow from the current 1.6 billion to 2.5 billion by 2020 – an astonishing growth of more than 50 percent. In Malaysia, myopic population reveals that there is a difference in the pattern of myopic progression between Malays and Chinese in Malaysia. It shows that while myopia in Malays stays relatively constant throughout 10 to 50 years of age, myopia in Chinese progresses rapidly from 10 to 20 years of age, after which it starts to show hyperopic shift, reaching a level of myopia similar to that of Malays at around 35 years of age (Yeow-UKM, 1994).

MyoVision The Breakthrough Spectacle Lenses

Until recently, the treatment strategies for myopia have concentrated on merely correcting vision. Latest studies have changed the understanding of myopia: correcting both central and peripheral vision is the most effective way of slowing down eye growth.

And this is exactly where the new MyoVision™ spectacle lenses set in. Invented and developed by ZEISS, MyoVision™ works with a simple, yet effective technique – it corrects for sharp central vision while also moving the peripheral image in front of the retina. This has an effect of sending a “stop” signal to the eye to manage eye elongation. The eye simply stops growing, thanks to the “Peripheral Vision Management” technology.

Retarding The Progression of Myopia By 30% Tested With And Approved By kids with glasses

This state-of-the-art solution has been clinically tested and officially approved. Studies including work at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Centre in China have shown that in children aged between six and twelve with at least one parent who is short-sighted the progress of myopia can be slowed down by an average of 30%. This means in practice that wearing MyoVision™ lenses can reduce the deterioration in vision from, for example, six to four dioptres in children over the review period. Over 210 children and young people aged between six and 16 took part in medical trials over the past twelve months. The test in China proves that MyoVision™ lenses have been developed with children in mind. After all, they have been successfully tested and approved by myopic children.
